How to choose a gaming laptop in South Africa
- Graphics card first. An RTX 5060 is the current minimum we recommend for a laptop you want to keep for three or more years. RTX 4050 and 4060 laptops are still good value for 1080p.
- 16GB RAM minimum. Many games now use more than 8GB. Check whether the RAM is upgradeable if you buy an 8GB model.
- Screen refresh rate. 144Hz or higher makes a visible difference in shooters and racing games. 165Hz to 240Hz is the sweet spot.
- Load shedding and power. Gaming laptops throttle on battery. Pair yours with a UPS or inverter if you game during outages.
